Most learners will be familiar with the water cycle. We have included a diagram of this cycle in the notes for you to use. However, the focus of this lesson is not simply to memorise the water cycle diagram but to explain how and why processes within the cycle take place. We use the properties of water discussed in the previous lesson as the basis of these explanations. In this lesson, dissociation, conductivity, water balance, the dissolving of gases and precipitation are discussed. The first on-screen pause attempts to draw the learners into the water cycle and to encourage them to think about where rivers come from. It is unlikely that they would have thought about it before. At the second pause it is advisable to question the learners on what a closed circuit and a current are, and why ions 'cause' a current to flow. The water balance experiment shows how important water is within both plant and animal cells.
