In Lesson 2 we show that light can be reflected and refracted. We start by answering the task question in Lesson 1. We can see objects around us because light is reflected from them. This reflected light then enters our eyes and we are able to see the object. The learners will also be shown how light reflects off objects that have straight boundaries (e.g. a straight mirror) and how it reflects off objects that don't have a regular shape. Refraction is also explored using the example of a swimming-pool brush and a toy in water. We show how light seems to bend when it leaves the water and so the objects appear to be different to what they really are. Throughout the lesson simple ray diagrams are used to explain what the learners are viewing on the screen. It is important that learners draw these diagrams themselves, using a pencil and ruler.
